Have you ever had a bowl of mixed nuts in front of you and picked through it to get to the cashews and almonds, leaving the Brazil nuts behind? Yeah, me,too. So, in an effort to convince myself to take a Brazil nut sometimes I thought I’d learn more about it’s nutritional benefits. Did you know that these nuts are most likely the best dietary source of selenium, a mineral that has been associated possibly with a reduced risk for breast and prostate cancer. It’s also a good source of thiamine, Vitamin E, Calcium, phosphorous, and copper. It’s also rich in protein and the good polyunsaturated fats. So, the next time you’re faced with that bowl of mixed nuts, take a brazil nut, too.
